Hello, I’m Carrie and its great to meet you!
I presume you’re interested in gardens and I hope we have the opportunity to share our ideas one day. In the meantime, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I swapped a painting I did in high school for my first car, a big old 1980s Mercedes-Benz, a good omen for the next six years which I spent gaining my degree and practicing as a Fine Artist while travelling the world. It was towards the end of these years, on an English summer’s day, that I was bitten by a bug in the garden and decided to study landscape design.
Returning to beautiful South Africa, I set up my life in Cape Town and earned my keep exploring my passion as an assistant garden designer to the acclaimed Franchesca Watson. When Franchesca started her independent practice two years later, I stayed on at Heimo Schulzer Gardens as head designer. The next five years were a whirlwind! Working on luxury residential projects, I designed more gardens than I can count, built relationships with the most wonderful clients and architects and never stopped learning.
Today I run my own Landscape Design practice in Cape Town. The natural and cultural diversity of our city affords me the opportunity to design in a broad range of styles, from ultra-contemporary gardens on the Atlantic Seaboard, to mountainous fynbos gardens, to the grand old gardens of the Constantia Valley.
